John Fowler
John started his refereeing career in January 2010. Upon successful completion of the Middlesex FA Course and exam, he joined the Amateur Football Combination, the Harrow Sunday Challenge League, the Eastern Junior Alliance, and the Allied Counties League. Upon applying for promotion he then joined the Spartan South Midlands League, and attained level 5 in March 2013, followed by level 4 status in March 2014.
He joined Harrow Referees society immediately upon passing the referee’s course and was able to attend many meetings, as he was resident in Stanmore at that time. During the 2014-15 season, he was elected as Society Treasurer, and worked closely with the secretary, David Roberts, preparing the Annual Accounts each financial year. He enjoys the Referee’s Association Annual Conference, which he has attended for many years.
In March 2016, an opportunity to make a career change prompted a move fromStanmore to Chelmsford in Essex. The change in hours and shifts with weekend
working invariably cut the amount of time he could devote to football. He transferred to Essex Football Association as a level 5 Referee, is still affiliated to Middlesex FA, and continues to referee at various levels. He is also the Referee Appointments’ officer for the Amateur Football Combination, this post held since 2017 involves appointing match officials to open age football.
